As a avid reader of historical fiction, I was intrigued by this novel. This is a novel that makes the reader not want to put it down which describes how I read it. I loved the accuracy of detail that many immigrants of the early 1900s experienced upon coming to America from Eastern Europe. The characters are developed in a manner that made me more compelled to read so I would know happened to them in their quest for opportunities. Oral literature is becoming a lost art and this novel shows the importance of writing it down for future generations to preserve a culture and a world that no longer exists. This novel is an excellent example as is stated in the author’s notes.
