The Clairton High School Class of 1960 is an interesting group. Their 600+ student body sophomore class was split, with the higher end socio-economic kids leaving the 1920s-era school building in favor of a brand new school in a bucolic setting.
No matter, CHS class of 60 soldiered on and and graduated 287 souls. CHS 1960 grads went on to be doctors, lawyers, all-American athletes, authors, engineers, and success stories of every ilk. But perhaps most importantly, the class held reunions every five years beginning in 1970.
This year is the sixtieth anniversary of the CHS Class of 1960 and they are due for a reunion, but the Covid-19 Corona virus threatened to put a damper on a group of any size getting together.
The adage: “When one door closes, another door opens,” is not a good thing if you’re incarcerated, but if you’re a member of the Clairton High School Class of 1960, the adage simply fuels the creative juices to find a way to continue the bi-decade get-togethers. And so it was that dozens of stalwart alumni members held a virtual reunion via the ever-popular Zoom technology.
The format was straight forward. Members of the organizing committee provided introductions followed by each class member giving a few-minute summary of their lives over the past sixty years.
