Some Reviews of Three Lives of Peter Novak from Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 starsWell written, well researched

I would suggest to readers that they read About the Author, Acknowledgements and Author’s Note from the back of the book first. When I read a novel with numerous historic references, I want to stop and verify the event. The author does this for us. It also provides a clear distinction between fact and fiction.
The tone of the story to unfold is set in the Dedication. I particularly liked how the author transitioned from current day settings to the story of Peter Novak. As the heretofore unknown story of his life’s experiences unfolded to Peter’s grandchildren, we witness their reaction. Their beloved, quiet, humble, peasant grandfather, they learned, had an amazing past.
My reactions to the large cast of characters created to tell Peter’s story ranged from admiration, respect, disdain and even love. Those fortunate enough to have known Eastern European immigrants who came to this country in the early 1900s will especially relate to Peter Novak’s story and the people in his life.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this novel by Andrew Nixon

I highly recommend this novel by Andrew Nixon. The story of a fictional European immigrant [Fin de siècle and early 20th Century] moves rapidly and very well as accounts of his trials and tribulations unfold. It provides an interesting and favorable contrast as he strives to adapt and become a good American to the problems current immigration entail. Ultimately it is a fine and very interesting romantic tale with a very surprising climax!!

5.0 out of 5 starsBrings back memories of my own grandparents, (Baba and Jeda)

This book was even more than I expected. Having grown up in Clairton and having Eastern European Grandparents made this book impossible to put down once I started to read it. I read it in one sitting, now this was all most the whole day. The Author has the ability to bring the town and characters to real life. Now I do have the advantage, I knew Andy Nixon’s grandparents, but now I see them in a new fascinating life, one of mystery. emotion, ingenuity and most of all two people who represent the many of the immigrants who came to this Country and were responsible for so many great things that have taken place in this Country. As I stated I am from Clairton, but if I was not I would still enjoy this book, it is written in a way that it can hold your interest in many ways, if you are a history buff, what to understand the people who migrated to the United States, wanted to read a good mystery or even a little bit of romance, it is all incorporated in this story or as the author said in family lore. This is truly a book I will recommend to everyone. I am hoping for a follow-up to this wonderful novel.

5.0 out of 5 starsThe story awakens questions in me about my own grandparents and what motivated them to make the great voyage to the New World

The story of Peter Novak is a story of broad appeal as anyone whose ancestors came to America from “the old country” would be able to relate to it. The story is actually three stories about different phases in a man’s life. One tells the story of his childhood; the next of his journey to America, and the third tells the story of his adventures seeking employment and building a life as a young man in a new country. All along the way are interesting characters, some who befriend him and others who threaten him. The story awakens questions in me about my own grandparents and what motivated them to make the great voyage to the New World.
